Cut it Up Challenge #233 ~ use a Favorite Sketch

Hi Crafty Friends,

Here's another Cut it Up Challenge Blog challenge.

We want you to follow a favorite sketch as you create your card or layout.
When I first began card making, card sketches helped me expand my design horizons.
Even now, when I'm stuck for a design, I refer to my stash of sketches.

Here's my card and the sketch I followed.

I used Whimsy Stamps' Giraffes Peeking and Simple Sentiments.
I colored using Copic Markers.

The sketch is For the Love of Sketches by Sesil used by a Theresa Collins DT member.

You can look online for card sketches or follow one of sketches found on CIU blog for this challenge.
Remember to use a die cut somewhere on your project.

Our winner will receive a $20 gift code from our sponsor,
STAMPlorations.

I hope you'll play along.

These Wonky Donkeys from Whimsy Stamps make me laugh.

Pearly Sparkles May Challenge ~ Clean and Simple

Hi Crafty Friends,

It's time for the Pearly Sparkles May challenge.

This month we'd like to see your Clean and Simple creations.

Here's my design team project using a wonderful stamp created by Jennifer Dove.
Her stamps are now available at Whimsy Stamps.

Jennifer's stamps appear detailed but they are truly simple to color.  I used Copic markers.
The frame is from Whimsy stamps.  I cut it out using card stock and then 3 layers of chip board to give the frame dimension.  The sentiment is from Whimsy Stamps' Cute Cacti set.

Just follow the link above to join in this month's challenge.

Masculine Sympathy Card

Hi Crafty Friends,

My hubby asked me to create a sympathy card for a long time friend who recently passed away.

I think sympathy cards are often difficult because so much emotion is involved.
Hubby wanted something that was representative of his friend.  His friend loved to fish so I used this amazing DoveArt (for Whimsy Stamps) stamp to create this card.

I have used this image (Large Mouth Bass) before and colored it with Copic markers.  This time I just stamped it with colored Momento ink and then heat embossed it.

To create the background I first blended Distress Ink Weathered Wood onto Cryogen paper.  Then I stamped and heat embossed the image.  I placed the LaLa Land Crafts Water Ripples Stencil over the image and ink blended again with the same Distress Ink.  I really like the effect of the background.
I used LaLa Land Crafts Stitched Build-a-Frame Dies and  LLLC Wood Planks Background Stamp set to create the picture frame.  I ink blended Distress Ink Vintage Photo onto kraft paper, cut out the frame pieces, then inked up the background stamp using Distress Ink Walnut Stain and stamped the pieces.  For the sentiment, I used Jaded Blossom Simple Sayings.  I stamped and heat embossed the sentiment onto a gold metallic tag I cut using JB Mini Tag Dies 2.  I think adding the gold brads really make it look like a picture frame plate.  Finally, I added some twine with a gold leaf charm.
I matted the "framed picture" onto gold metallic and added that to the card base.

I'm pleased that this sympathy card has a personal touch representative of the man who passed.

Thanks for stopping by,

Cut It Up Challenge #204 ~ Create Your Own Background Paper

Hi Crafty Friends,

We have a really fun challenge for you at Cut it Up Challenge Blog.
We want to see you create your own background paper.

I had fun with this one.  I'm trying to expand my blending and stamping skills so here's what I created.

I blended Distress Ink onto some Papertrey Ink white paper.  Then I die cut the slimline frame using a metallic paper(Whimsy Stamps) and placed it over the blended paper to determine the placement for the panels.  I used Jaded Blossom's Spring Splatters for the top and bottom panel, stamping on top of the blended background.  I used the slimline die again to cut each panel from the section I wanted.  Finally, I added these adorable cacti from Cute Cacti (Whimsy Stamps) and added a LaLa Land Crafts cloud and some grass clusters.  The sentiment also came from the Cute Cacti set.  I added some Nuvo Crystal Drops and called it done.

I hope you'll play along with us.  Be sure to visit the Cut It Up blog to see even more amazing backgrounds!

Die Cuttin' Divas Challenge #444 ~ Anything Goes!

Hi Crafty Friends,

Well, the nasty cold bug visited our household and the hubs and I have been down for a week - yuck!
I know I'm really under the weather when I can't even spend time in my craft room.
I think we're on the mend and I'll have several crafty posts for you this week.

Our 5th Tuesday challenge at Die Cuttin' Divas is always ANYTHING GOES.

This is a birthday card I made for my hubby's great friend who loves fishing.
The stamp is from Whimsy Stamps and created by Jennifer Dove (LOVE her!)

I colored the bass using Copic Markers.  The stitched mats are Jaded Blossom dies and the sentiment and flag dies are from La-La Land Crafts.

I'm so happy with the way this turned out.  I colored a second one for another masculine birthday using a slightly different layout.

Please join us for our ANYTHING GOES challenge.  Just follow the link above.

Hi Crafty Friends,

Our My Time to Craft challenge is double-themed this week for those of you who don't participate in Halloween.

I just love Whimsy Stamps, especially their monthly Paper Door kits.  The stamps I used for this project are from one of last year's kits but the stamps are still available in the store, just not as a kit.

The card base is a Whimsy Stamp die.  I colored using Copic Markers.

I hope you'll join us with either a Cat or Halloween project.  Just follow the link above.
